PE

Here at Devonshire, we want to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in physical activity and competitive sport.

During their time at Devonshire, children develop fundamental movement skills which improve agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others. They master the basic movements of running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination.  Children have opportunities to participate in team games and develop simple tactics for attacking and defending.  They learn and perform simple movement patterns.

Two different areas of PE will be taught each half term for children to develop, practise and refine skills.  The curriculum focusses on the key skills of throwing, catching, running and jumping, as well as co-ordination, balance and agility.  Opportunities to repeat and refine these skills are vital for children to improve and apply these to competitive games and to prepare them for their next phase of education.

Children will have the opportunities to experience different sports such as; cricket, hockey, bench ball, athletics, golf, gymnastics, tennis and dance.

Throughout the year, children have the opportunity to participate in playground games and activities daily.  Skipping club is available all year round for all Key Stage One children.  Sports clubs are provided free of charge throughout the year and promote a love of sport and the experience of competition.
